This role sits at the center of the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood’s work and operates as a key extension of the Executive Director. On any given day, you may shift between high-level strategy, hands-on program management, and detailed administrative work.
You’ll regularly act on behalf of the Executive Director—sometimes stepping into meetings, making decisions, or handling urgent issues that affect statewide fatherhood programs. This means balancing independence with alignment, and being comfortable making judgment calls in both routine and high-pressure situations.
A significant portion of your time is spent coordinating and supporting Commission activities. You’ll plan and facilitate meetings, prepare agendas, capture notes, and ensure follow-through on decisions. You may also represent the Commission in public settings, speaking on topics like infant mortality prevention, father engagement, or family stability initiatives.
Working with Partners and Stakeholders
This role is highly collaborative. You’ll work with a wide network of partners, including multiple state agencies such as the Department of Health, Youth Services, and Rehabilitation and Correction, as well as community organizations and local fatherhood programs. Expect to:
You’ll also engage directly with communities—occasionally traveling to correctional facilities, re-entry fairs, and local events to present information and support fatherhood initiatives.
Program and Grant Management Responsibilities
A core part of the role involves managing grants and program performance. You’ll help develop funding opportunities, draft grant materials, and support the evaluation and selection process. Once programs are funded, you’ll:
You’ll need to be comfortable analyzing program effectiveness, addressing challenges, and communicating risks or barriers to leadership.
Training, Strategy, and Continuous Improvement
You’ll contribute to developing training programs and identifying best practices that can be replicated across the state. When programs struggle, you’ll help design and implement performance improvement plans.
This part of the job requires both strategic thinking and practical problem-solving—figuring out what works, why it works, and how to scale it.
Business and Administrative Operations
In addition to program leadership, you’ll manage many of the Commission’s operational functions. This includes:
You’ll often juggle multiple systems and processes, sometimes working through technical or resource limitations.
