Job Description

SE&M Constructors is seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Safety Manager to support and oversee safety operations across multiple construction projects. This position plays a key role in promoting a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA standards, customer requirements, and company safety policies.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, training, and organizational skills with a solid background in commercial and industrial construction safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs project safety inspections and audits and accurately documents findings within the company’s electronic safety records management system.
  • Effectively communicates identified hazards and corrective actions with field employees and supervisors.
  • Communicates company safety policies, procedures, and expectations with field personnel.
  • Performs thorough post-incident investigations to ensure incidents are properly documented, required procedures were followed, and opportunities for improvement are identified.
  • Provides onsite and classroom safety training for field employees.
  • Assists with onboarding and safety orientation training for newly hired employees.
  • Prepares near-miss reports, injury reports, accident/damage reports, project submittals, and other safety documentation as needed.
  • Assists the VP of Safety in preparing company safety manuals, site-specific safety plans, safety data sheets, and contractor prequalification documents.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and training of new company safety policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the VP of Safety to continuously improve company safety processes and programs.
  • Assists with coordination of company-wide safety and leadership development training programs.
  • Maintains electronic employee training records for both company employees and temporary workers.
  • Strictly adheres to company safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the VP of Safety.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, train, and mentor employees in a team environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA construction standards and construction safety best practices.
  • Working field knowledge including competent person training in:
    • Confined Space
    • Excavation & Trenching
    • Fall Protection
    • Crane & Rigging Operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Proficient with technology and equipment commonly utilized within the construction and safety industries.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required.

  Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction safety or a comparable role.
  • Safety-related college degree or equivalent field experience preferred.
  • OSHA 500 certification required.
    • Candidates with OSHA 510 certification / OSHA 30 will be considered but must obtain OSHA 500 within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified Trainer credentials preferred, including: First Aid/CPR, Aerial Lift, Forklift
  • US work authorization required.

  • Salary: Varies Depending on Experience

  • 401K Retirement Plan: SE&M provides a retirement plan to all eligible employees. The employee is encouraged to participate in this plan by using payroll deductions. Eligibility requires the employee to be 18 years of age and participation begins on the first day of employment. Company matches $.50 per dollar up to the first 6% of employee contribution (3% match).
